CITY OF FREEPORT City Engineer This full time position will be responsible for Civil Engineering work related to the review of design and construction plans, including areas related to water service, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, road and street systems and traffic control. The City Engineer oversees the Capital Improvement Program and is responsible for coordinating with the Public Works Director for transportation management, planning and traffic control. Resolving customer concerns pertaining to streets, water, sewer and storm drainage systems will be necessary. The successful candidate will have the ability to conceive and implement new procedures, standards and regulations, and to work successfully with other City staff, elected officials, contractors, consultants and citizens. A degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program and the ability to obtain a PE within six months of hire is required. A minimum of four years of progressive responsibility in design and implementation of municipal projects including roadwork and water and sewer utility experience is also necessary. The successful candidate will have knowledge of IL Dept. of Transportation MFT and federal programs. Must have a minimum of two (2) years supervisory/leadership experience.
