The City of Oshkosh, Wisconsin is searching for a new Fire Chief. Candidates are sought that possess a history of exceptional communication skills and cooperative ability. The Fire Chief is an important leadership position who will be expected to plan, organize and direct all activities of the Fire Department. This position will establish departmental policies, rules and standard operating guidelines within the constraints of national standards, laws and other requirements. Additionally, the Chief will be expected to act as City Emergency Management Coordinator as well as participate in state and local fire service organizations. General supervision of this positon will be provided by City Manager, upon appointment by the Police and Fire Commission.
The ideal candidate will possess at least ten (10) years of experience in firefighting, emergency medical services and emergency management, including five (5) years of experience in a progressively responsible command position in a fire department of similar size and service levels. Experience as a front line Paramedic and/or Emergency Medical Services supervisor is preferred. This experience should be supplemented by a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fire Service, Management or a related field. A Master’s Degree is preferred.
The successful candidate will also be a Graduate of the National Fire Academy Executive Fire Officer Program, and be a State of Wisconsin Emergency Medical Responder or higher. The ability to maintain Chief Fire Officer Designation from the Center for Public Safety Excellence, possess or be able to obtain State of Wisconsin FFII certification and a State of Wisconsin Fire Officer II certification are also desired.
